Why is Bimatoprost prescribed?
Lumigan is an eye drop that combats high pressure inside the eyeball. It is prescribed for a condition called open-angle glaucoma (a gradual increase of pressure in the eye). It is typically used after other remedies have caused problems or fail to work. It lowers pressure by promoting drainage of the fluid (aqueous humor) that fills the eye.
Most important fact about Bimatoprost
Lumigan has been known to cause several changes in the appearance of the eyes. The color of the iris occasionally changes to brown, and the eyelids may darken. The eyelashes may also be affected, increasing in length, thickness, and number, and turning a darker shade.
These changes occur slowly, and may take months or years to notice. They may be permanent, and are especially important for patients who will be using Lumigan in only one eye.
How should you take Bimatoprost?
This eye drop is administered once a day. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before using Lumigan. Wait 15 minutes before reinserting them. If you are using more than one type of eye drop, space the drugs 5 minutes apart.
To avoid contamination and to reduce the risk of developing an eye infection, do not let the tip of the container touch the eye, face, or fingers.

Take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take 2 doses at the same time.

What side effects may occur?
Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Lumigan.

Burning eyes, cataract, darkening of eyelashes, darkening of the skin surrounding the eye, dry eyes, excessive hair growth, eye irritation, eye pain, feeling of a foreign body in the eye, growth of eyelashes, headaches, itchy eyes, red eyelids, respiratory infections, swelling of the eyelids, visual disturbances, weakness
Why should Bimatoprost not be prescribed?
You'll be unable to use Lumigan if it causes an allergic reaction.
Special warnings about Bimatoprost
Due to the risk of infection if the drops become contaminated, you should check with your doctor about using the dispenser bottle if you suffer any eye injury or are scheduled for eye surgery.
An infection could cause serious damage to the eye. Check with your doctor immediately if you develop any eye reactions, particularly inflamed eyelids.
Your doctor will check for the presence of certain eye conditions such as inflammation in the area of the iris (uveitis) and swelling in the back of the eye (macular edema). Lumigan must be used with caution under these circumstances.
Also be sure the doctor knows if you have kidney disease or liver problems. They are reasons for caution when using Lumigan.
Do not use Lumigan more than once a day. More frequent administration may diminish the effect of the drug.
Possible food and drug interactions when taking Bimatoprost
There is no information on interactions with other drugs.
Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
The effects of Lumigan during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately.
It is not known whether Lumigan appears in breast milk. Use Lumigan with caution if you are nursing.
Recommended dosage
ADULTS
The recommended dose is 1 drop in the affected eye or eyes once daily in the evening.
Overdosage
Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
